Planning Your Solar System Mobile
A solar system mobile features the sun at the centre (or top) with planets arranged by distance. You’ll need 8-9 different coloured felt circles in graduated sizes — from tiny Mercury to the large Jupiter.
Materials Needed
Felt sheets in yellow (sun), grey (Mercury), orange (Venus), blue-green (Earth), red (Mars), orange-brown (Jupiter), gold (Saturn), pale blue (Uranus), and dark blue (Neptune). Plus stuffing, embroidery thread, a wooden cross-arm hanger, and fishing line.
Creating Each Planet
Cut two circles for each planet in the appropriate colour and size. Jupiter should be about 10cm, Earth about 5cm, and Mercury about 3cm. Add details with contrasting stitching — Saturn’s rings, Jupiter’s stripes, Earth’s continents.

Arrange planets from the centre outward in order. Vary the hanging heights to create a 3D effect. The sun can sit at the top centre, with inner planets close and outer planets further away.
